Most chassis manufacturers offer a $1,000 customer mobility assistance rebate with the purchase of a new vehicle. (See links to Ford, General Motors, Honda, Toyota.) The $1,000 rebate applies to the purchase of a new wheelchair accessible van by BraunAbility or Vantage Mobility or to adaptive equipment purchased to upfit a new vehicle. We can help direct you to those resources.
Some new vehicles such as pickup trucks, SUVs, vans, and cars can be upfitted with adaptive equipment such as hand controls, steering devices, power assist seats, wheelchair lifts, and wheelchair restraints.
We strongly recommend that you visit Kansas Truck Mobility before purchasing a vehicle for modification. Not all vehicles are made to accept adaptive equipment.
In almost every case, your ability to receive funding will require you to purchase and have the equipment installed by a member of the National Mobility Equipment Dealer Association (NMEDA). Kansas Truck Mobility is a QAP certified mobility equipment dealer of NMEDA.
Kansas Truck Mobility can direct you to various lending organizations which understand the unique characteristics of this equipment and provide terms you may not find at more conventional lenders.
One final note, with a prescription from your doctor for the adaptive equipment, you will not be required to pay state sales taxes on the adaptive equipment.
